Counselling and Psychotherapy

This is a talking therapy service, where we will explore in a safe, supportive environment what is troubling you. You will be listened to and supported in finding ways forward.

Welcome to Stepping Stones Psychology

who is it for?

You may have been struggling for some time to make sense of how you’re feeling and are now looking to talk things through with someone who can really listen and help you untangle what’s going on.

Counselling and psychotherapy can help you explore your thoughts from a new perspective and support you in finding it easier to cope with everyday life.

What CAN WE WORK ON TOGETHER, AND WHAT MIGHT CHANGE?

Through therapy, you may find it easier to understand, express, and manage your emotions, including things like anger or anxiety. You might also notice an increase in self-confidence, clarity, and a stronger sense of emotional balance in your everyday life.

We’ll explore the areas that matter most to you, whether it's your mood, behaviours you’d like to change, or patterns you’re ready to understand more deeply.

Some of the issues we commonly support people with include:

  • Mental health challenges, such as depression, anxiety, or eating disorders

  • Physical health concerns that feel emotionally overwhelming, like infertility or chronic illness

  • Life events and transitions, including bereavement, breakups, or work-related stress

  • Emotional difficulties, like low self-esteem, overwhelm, or frequent anger

  • Identity and relationships, including sexual identity or attachment patterns

  • Loss, grief, and unresolved trauma

Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. We’ll tailor the work to your needs, and move at your own pace.

What will we do in the sessions?

In our sessions, we'll engage in counselling or therapeutic work using an integrative approach. This simply means I draw from a range of therapeutic models, tailoring our work to suit your unique needs, goals, and pace.

Some of the approaches I may use include:

  • Person-Centred / Humanistic Therapy – focusing on empathy, trust, and your own inner resources

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – helping you identify and change unhelpful thought patterns

  • Psychodynamic Therapy – exploring how your past might be shaping your present

  • Solution-Focused Therapy – building on your strengths and focusing on what’s working

  • Psycho-education – helping you understand how your mind and body respond to stress, trauma, or emotion

We’ll check in regularly to see how things are going. Around Session 6, we’ll do a progress review. Some clients choose to move into Specialist Trauma Therapy at that point. This is a deeper or more targeted therapy. If that feels right for you, we’ll explore it together and decide what’s most supportive moving forward.

To ensure that you and your therapist are both on the same page and you feel safe and supported, we ask all new clients to review and sign a brief agreement before booking their first appointment. It only takes a couple of minutes and helps us start off with clarity and care. Once you’ve signed the agreement, you’ll automatically be redirected to the booking calendar. Thank you for your time and patience.

We also completely understand that if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure at this stage, reading and signing the terms might feel like a lot. If that’s the case, please don’t worry, you’re welcome to email us on contact@steppingstonespsychology.com instead, and we will gladly arrange a brief 15-minute call with your therapist, so you both can walk through things together before you move forward. You’re not alone in this. If you choose this option, please know that it is only a brief call, and no trauma history will be taken. It is only an opportunity for you to ask your therapist any questions and get a feel for the personality fit before you have your formal first session.
