Monthly Reflective Group for Therapists and other Helping Professionals

Are you feeling emotionally drained after work? Holding emotional or intense client work, week after week, can take a toll on us, even when we are very passionate about what we do. I believe this is the part of our work, we don’t talk enough about. That’s why I created this space.

Following the delivery of my annual end-of-year Trauma-Informed Circles, the consistent feedback received highlighted a strong need for more regular, ongoing reflective support.
In response, these circles are now being offered on a monthly basis, as a drop-in reflective space (there is no requirement to attend every month).

These groups are not supervision, but will be supervision-informed reflective group.

OVERVIEW

These are monthly trauma-informed reflective practice circles for professionals whose work involves exposure to trauma, distress, and high emotional demand.

The sessions are intentionally designed to support reflection, integration, and self-care based on psychological wellbeing. I will be offering a structured opportunity for you to pause and reflect on learning and experience at the end of each month.

Each month focuses on a specific theme, planned across the year so that sessions progress and flow naturally from one session to the next. While these themes are connected, each session stands alone, and participants are welcome to attend individual sessions according to their professional needs and capacity.

I personally understand how much we carry when holding space for trauma. Even with good supervision in place, much of what we hold often stays with us, because supervision is usually focused on clients rather than carving out dedicated time for our own reflection and self-care. Unfortunately, this can mean we are not always able to be the most attuned and present version of ourselves. Despite being deeply passionate about the work we do, this can be difficult when we are on the verge of burnout or managing secondary stress, secondary trauma, and vicarious trauma, which are aspects that supervision alone cannot fully address.

This is why I have created these monthly trauma-informed circles. Basically to fill that gap for those who hold space working with trauma, offering a contained, reflective, and restorative space where practitioners can pause, integrate, and resource themselves.

AIM

The circles aim to:

  • Support reflective practice in trauma-exposed work
  • Promote professional wellbeing and capacity over time
  • Reduce the risk of cumulative stress and vicarious trauma
  • Encourage ethical and trauma-informed informed practice
  • Offer a contained space for reflection without expectation of disclosure

Attendance can be counted towards CPD, in line with BPS, HCPC, BACP, NCPS and organisational CPD requirements, with participants encouraged to record learning and reflection in accordance with their professional body’s guidance.

WHO THIS IS FOR

  • Psychologists, counsellors, psychotherapists and social workers
  • Mental health professionals working directly or indirectly with trauma
  • Other professionals working directly or indirectly with trauma, wanting a supportive space for reflection and selfcare
  • Practitioners seeking reflective support that complements supervision
  • Professionals looking for a safe and trauma-informed space for a pause to reset and reflect.

STRUCTURE AND FORMAT

  • 1.5 hour monthly session
  • Small group format (max 6 in-person) at my Sheffield base
  • A separate virtual group session is held on fortnightly Wednesdays at 6pm (UK time) via Zoom for participants across the world, or those who can’t attend in-person for personal reasons
  • No requirement to share personal material
  • Sessions are always choice-led, trauma-informed and will be contained to make sure it is ethical

Each session will include a blend of:

  • Trauma-informed guided reflection, including themed guided meditation and journaling
  • Gentle nervous-system regulation practices
  • Opportunities to integrate clinical, therapeutic, relational and emotional experiences from the month

The intention is to offer a restorative and professionally supportive space, enabling participants to step into the following month feeling more grounded, clear and resourced.

ABOUT THE GROUP FACILITATOR

My name is Sharmi and I am the Founder and Clinical Director of Stepping Stones Psychology, an integrated mental health and specialist trauma therapy service.

I am a psychologist and a full member of the British Psychological Society (BPS). I am also an accredited member of National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) as a psychotherapist, and also hold BPS-Accredited (Level 3) Supervision qualification. The latter is roughly equivalent to a post-qualifying counselling supervision certificate, such as CPCAB Level 6 Certificate in Therapeutic Counselling Supervision/ Diploma/Certificate in Clinical Supervision. I specialise in trauma-informed supervision.

As a Specialist Trauma Therapist, I have drawn on my professional experience and knowledge to develop these reflective circles with the intention of creating space to deepen somatic awareness and and work within a safe, collaborative and gently held small-group environment.

In my therapy and supervision work, I use an integrative approach rooted in humanistic values, particularly person-centred principles, but also draw on psychodynamic and somatic approaches.

My facilitation and supervision style is warm, relational and ethically grounded, with a strong focus on self-care, practitioner wellbeing and protecting against the cumulative impact of trauma work. I predominantly work through a trauma-informed and attachment-based lens, and I utilise the 7-Eyed Supervision Model to support reflective practice.

I uphold high professional standards, having completed doctoral-level training in Counselling Psychology, and bring specialist expertise from my previous role as a Specialist Trauma and Attachment Therapist at a dedicated trauma therapy centre.
