SPRING RETREAT 2021

So we are very excited to announce that the bookings are now open for our first collaborative retreat!

In the future, we may have retreats open to anyone. However, this particular retreat is aimed at women and to all females regardless of your gender identification (incl. those of you who are gender-fluid, non-binary etc) and/or your sexual orientation. We want to make sure that our work is inclusive and one that offers unconditional acceptance and compassion.

Following is an informative post written by Vicky O’Donoghue about what the retreat is all about:

“Excited for my first Retreat collaboration! 😍 2021 is going to be a very special year 😁🙌🏼❤

Together with a team of trauma-informed specialists and facilitators, Mindful Living & Stepping Stones Psychology are offering a unique therapeutic weekend retreat which is exclusively trauma-sensitive & trauma-informed.

Our Retreat is for anyone who would like support to navigate their way through trauma-related issues, using an embodied approach as part of their personal healing and growth journey.

What is Trauma?

Going through very stressful, frightening or distressing events is sometimes called trauma.

Difficult and challenging personal situations or life events can be traumatic and have a lasting impact on our psychological, physical and emotional health.

Traumatic events can happen at any age and can sometimes result in long term effects. Everyone has a different reaction to trauma, so you might notice any effects quickly, or a long time afterwards.
(Adapted from Mind UK)

What is an Embodied Approach?

The classic forms of talking psychotherapy are limited in working with traumatic symptoms since they don’t address the critical role of the body in healing. ‘Trauma is not in the event but in the nervous system’ (Dr Peter Levine), so to heal trauma, the body and specifically, the nervous system must be included.

Somatic based practices are therefore much more effective in helping people come out of trauma-based symptoms and long-term suffering.
This blog by Dr Arielle Schwarz explains this in more detail: https://drarielleschwartz.com/embodiment-in-somatic-psychology-dr-arielle-schwartz/?fbclid=IwAR0XUuUfqbGHMjExQtHXNVVGV7qKEf9O0yWbJJHdbbWqoaCcazZZjXmIl4o#.X8Epgs37TIV

Have I experienced trauma?

Sharmi’s blog helps us to address and clarify this burning question…

Is this retreat for me?

You don’t need a trauma-related diagnosis to benefit from trauma-informed, embodied practices. This approach enables stuck and repressed emotions that may have built up over a lifetime to be safely expressed and released.
Our retreat is for anyone who is called to join us, whether at the very start of your healing journey, at the very beginning of your recovery process; or someone who wishes to integrate a range of embodied approaches into your existing support system.

It would also be helpful to those working in therapeutic support settings, who wish to become more trauma-informed. All embodied approaches need to be experienced first hand.
